I’m always amazed at the list of things my Vitamix can do. We all know it makes the best smoothies & frozen desserts.. Some of you may even know that it can make hot soup. But, not many people know that you can make your own Flours, Powdered Sugars, Flax Meal, Ground Coffee & Nut Butters, all with a Vitamix!

In this Video, I demonstrate How To Make Your Own Powdered Sugar in the Vitamix, in less than 60 seconds from White Sugar, Evaporated Cane Juice & even Sugar Alternatives such as Xylitol or Erythritol.

If you don’t already have a Vitamix, I strongly encourage you to check out what this machine is capable of!

Description

Your Vitamix can do much more than make smoothies… It can also make Powdered Sugar out of any Sugar.  Here’s How to Make Your Own Powdered Sugar in the Vitamix with Video Tutorial.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 Cup Sugar, Evaporated Cane Juice or Sugar Alternatives such as Xylitol or Erythritol. (almost any Sugar will work – except those with high moisture such as Brown Sugar).

Instructions

  1. Place the Sugar into the Vitamix
  2. Give the Sugar a quick blend Starting at Variable Speed 1, Working your way quickly to Variable Sped 10, and on to High.
  3. After you start to see the Sugar crush into powder, stop the Vitamix and give the Sugar a quick stir with the blunt edge of a knife or spatula.  This will make sure that everything is blended evenly.
  4. Repeat the blending steps again, until you see the Powder Sugar puffing up inside the container.
  5. Store any unused Powdered Sugar in an airtight container.

Notes

If you have issues with your Powdered Sugar clumping, you may add 1 Tablespoon of Corn Starch or Tapioca Starch per cup of sugar to help prevent this.

Just the answer I was looking for when I discovered no confectioners sugar last night and quests were coming in an hour. Thanks! It worked perfectly.

Was the texture of the powdered sugar you made in the VitaMix same as store bought powdered sugar? I tried to make it in other blenders and the powdered sugar had a gritty texture.

Question: I’ve realized I can do this but I’m afraid of sugar-blasting (like sand-blasting) the plastic interior of the blender pitcher. I’ve ruined a bread machine bread pan before making a “sugar loaf” recipe that was designed for bread machines!! but the kneading of the bread with granulated sugar left horrible scrapes in the nonstick interior, so I have a terrible fear of ruining my Vitamix in a similar way, and I haven’t seen any comments on this potential issue from the Vitamix site … Thanks if you see this and respond!

I also am wondering about possibility of sugar damaging the container. Can I use my regular container or do I need to purchase the dry container for this?

Hi Cara, This is a great question. Eventually everything you blend will wear the inside of the blender container, but not in the same way it did your non-stick pan. It will not scrape or affect the blender’s performance in any way… It will however eventually start to dull the container – But, I’ve had mine for several years & I’m still able to see through it & use it multiple times a day. And making powdered sugar is actually one of the more mild things I use my container for – I think crushing ice & making homemade almond butter is even more aggressive on it. I would do it without concern for ‘ruining’ your Vitamix since it was designed to be so much more than just a blender. =) Hope that helps. God Bless! ~Erika

I made the powdered sugar in my vitamin and looks great, however my blender, container, and the sugar is super hot. The sugar would cool down at room temperature and so I put in fridge for a bit. Is this normal?

In the instructions 1/2 sugar = 1cup powdered sugar. Is that correct?
