Natural ShamRAWk Shake – Dairy Free

Natural ShamRAWk Shake – Dairy Free

For a limited time each year, McDonalds comes out with their signature Shamrock Shake… a artificial green concoction with so many unhealthy ingredients I wouldn’t feed it to my (hypothetical) pet pig.  However, it must contain some mind-altering drug, because everyone and their mother seems to be walking around drinking one.

Not wanting to be a party-pooper I decided to come up with my own Healthy & Raw version of the shake so my family & I could enjoy the fun of drinking something ‘green & creamy’ in honor of St. Patrick’s Day.

This Dairy Free Shamrock Shake recipe is so creamy & delicious… you won’t even feel like you’re missing out!  Plus, it’s actually good for you!

Natural ShamRAWk Shake Recipe- Dairy Free

This recipe is for 1 serving, but it can be scaled to any serving size – larger or smaller.

All ingredients I used in the video were Organic.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 Cup Raw Cashews – Soaked for 1 Hour (then drained)
  • 1 Frozen Banana
  • 1/2 Cup Milk Alternative – Almond, RiceSoy, or Dairy if you prefer.
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Lime Juice (trust me on this one)
  • 2 Stalks of Kale
  • Fresh Sprig of Mint – OR – Natural Mint Flavoring (to taste)
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Vanilla (if you don’t like mint, you can use just the vanilla)
  • 3/4 to 1 Cup of Ice

Procedure:

  1. In VitaMix, combine all ingredients in order listed – except Ice.
  2. Start on Variable Speed 1, working your way up to 10, then to High.
  3. Once everything is completely smooth, add in Ice.
  4. Blend again (using the VitaMix Tamper if necessary) until all ingredients are running smoothly through the machine and everything is well blended.
  5. Shake should be thick and creamy.
  6. Serve immediately.
  7. Top with Raw Coconut Vanilla Whipped Cream (recipe coming soon) & a Cherry!

Yields:  Approximately 16 ounces (2 Cups) – I served it to my kids in little Baby Food Jars and they loved it!

Preparation & Cooking Time: 5 minutes prep (plus 1 hour soak time for nuts)

Feel free to send me any questions or comments you may have!

~ Enjoy!

Thanks for the recipe! In the photo with the straws and strawberries, what is the white whipped cream looking layer on top of the shake? Do you have a healthy alternative for whipping cream?

      Hi Dawn!

Yes! I do have a delicious recipe for a Non-Dairy Vanilla Coconut Cream.. which is what I used on the top of the shake. I also have a variation of it that can be used for frosting! I’ll be sharing those recipes soon!

In the mean time, you can refrigerate a can of whole coconut milk over night and there should be a little ‘cream’ on the top for you to use. Sweeten it to your taste, then add a little Vanilla, and Voila’!

Unfortunately, by the time I took the photo for these shakes, the cream had melted. =) But we slurped them down anyway and they were still great!

      Enjoy & God Bless!

I LOVE these!!! I can’t tell you how many of them I’ve made! I’ve even decided that when a snow storm hits (which has happened about every Tuesday lately), it’s time for a Shamrock Shake! Of course, now that spring is approaching, I’ll have to find another excuse for making them. Thank you for posting this recipe!
